Questions
Frequently asked questions
If you do not see your question, write to us and we will answer.
Do you take my insurance?
We are out of network with every plan; you pay for each session yourself and we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid.
What is a superbill?
It is a receipt with the dates and kind of session, plus the diagnosis code your plan asks for. Your insurer can see that code. Your plan decides whether it pays anything, so ask it first.
What is a good faith estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of your care before you start. We give you one before the first session. The estimate is not a contract.
How are fees set, and when will I hear mine?
The fee depends on the kind of session and its length, and we give it to you in writing before the first session. The answers on insurance, receipts and estimates are on the fees page. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open.
Can I pay with an HSA or FSA card?
Yes, they work like any other payment card. If your plan reimburses separately, use the itemized receipt too.
What happens in the first session?
It lasts 60 minutes. Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. At the end, you both decide whether to continue.
How often, and for how long?
Your therapist sets the pace with you. We do not promise a number of sessions: it depends on what you want to work on and how you feel.
Are you licensed where I live?
Our licenses are from Texas. By video we see people in states where we are licensed: today, Texas. You must be in Texas during the session.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.
What is confidential, and what are the limits?
What you share stays in the session. The law sets limits: if someone is at serious risk of harming themselves or another person, or if abuse of a child or an older adult is suspected, your therapist may have to tell others. We explain this in writing before you start.
Do you see teenagers?
No. We see adults and couples. If you are looking for help for a son or daughter, we will give you the names of colleagues who see minors.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment. Without notice, the session may be charged. We tell you in writing before you start.
Is there a question left?
