Couples therapy

Both of you talking, with no one winning the argument

For couples, married or not, who speak Spanish at home and want to understand each other better: about family, money, work or children.

Sessions run 80 minutes so there is time to hear both of you. If one of you prefers English, we use both languages.

What to expect

What it is like, in six points

  • What sessions are like

They run 80 minutes with both of you present, in person or by video. Your therapist makes sure each of you speaks.

  • The method

Each therapist explains how they work with couples and why, and confirms their training with you.

  • What it is not

It is not a ruling on who is right. If there is fear or violence at home, your therapist explains other options and does not continue with couples sessions.

  • Length and frequency

Your therapist sets the pace with you. We do not promise a number of sessions or a result.

  • The risks

Talking about what hurts can cause tension between sessions. Your therapist explains the possible risks and benefits before you begin.

  • How it is paid

You pay yourself at the end of each session, with a good faith estimate in writing before you start. It is explained on the fees page.

Three questions about this service

Do both of us have to come?

Yes, both people come to couples sessions. If only one of you wants to come, individual therapy is another option.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. At the end, you both decide whether to continue.

How often, and for how long?

Your therapist sets the pace with you. We do not promise a number of sessions: it depends on what you want to work on and how you feel.
