Therapy in Spanish, with the calm of a table at home

Solace is a Houston practice for adults and couples who prefer to talk about what they feel in Spanish. Three bilingual therapists, in person or by video.

Blanca Iglesias

Founder and therapist, LMFT

She sees adults and couples in Spanish and in English. She believes a hard conversation feels most natural in the language of home.

In the first session Blanca listens, explains how she works and the limits of confidentiality, and lets you set the pace. Her Texas license is listed at the foot of every page.

She sees

  • Adults who live between two languages
  • Couples who speak Spanish at home
  • People who recently arrived in Houston

How we work

One conversation at a time, without hurry

There is no script at Solace. Each therapist explains how they work and why, and you decide whether it suits you.

  • You choose the language

You can switch from Spanish to English mid-sentence. No one corrects you here.

  • You set the pace with your therapist

We do not promise a number of sessions. You talk about what you want, when you want.

  • Your information is kept private

We keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.

Services

Two ways to begin

Both services are offered in person, in Houston, or by video from anywhere in Texas.

  • An amber armchair beside a window with afternoon light

    Individual therapy

For one adult. 50-minute sessions, in Spanish, in English or in both.

  • The hands of two people, one holding the other

    Couples therapy

For two people. 80-minute sessions, so both of you have time to speak.

How it starts

Three steps before we sit down to talk

  • 01

    Write or call us

Tell us what times suit you and which language you prefer. You do not need to say anything more.

  • 02

A short call, if you want one

It is 15 minutes to see if we fit. That call is not therapy or an assessment.

  • 03

    The first session

If you pay without insurance, we first send the good faith estimate in writing. Then 60 minutes to get to know each other.

By video

Where we see people by video

By video we see people in states where we are licensed: today, Texas. You must be in Texas during the session.

  • Houston
  • Pasadena
  • Bellaire
  • Spring Branch
  • Katy
  • Sugar Land

If you are outside Texas during the session, we cannot yet see you. We will help you find someone licensed where you live.

How fees work

The answers to what nearly everyone asks before a first session.

  • Insurance

Solace is out of network with every plan: you pay for each session yourself. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If you want someone who bills your plan, we will gladly give you the names of colleagues.

    • Out of network with insurance plans

    • No Medicare or Medicaid

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at the end of each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards. There is no contract and no payment in advance. The fee depends on the kind of session and how long it runs: 60 minutes for the first, 50 for an individual session and 80 for a couples session. We give it to you in writing before the first session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one. We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment.

  • A receipt to claim reimbursement

Each month we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything; ask it before you start.

  • A good faith estimate

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

We do not check benefits, because we do not bill your plan. If you want to know whether your plan reimburses, call it before the first session and ask about out-of-network mental health services.

Questions

What nearly everyone asks

Do you take my insurance?

We are out of network with every plan; you pay for each session yourself and we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid.

What is a good faith estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of your care before you start. We give you one before the first session. The estimate is not a contract.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Your therapist explains how they work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and listens. At the end, you both decide whether to continue.

Are you licensed where I live?

Our licenses are from Texas. By video we see people in states where we are licensed: today, Texas. You must be in Texas during the session.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.

What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you share stays in the session. The law sets limits: if someone is at serious risk of harming themselves or another person, or if abuse of a child or an older adult is suspected, your therapist may have to tell others. We explain this in writing before you start.
